CarPlay Compatibility

Now that Apple has allowed 3rd party navigation apps to use the CarPlay, will we see this become available with LeadNav?

Not coming anytime soon. Currently car play is a weaker viewer for the iPad or iPhone and like the Apple Watch it lacks the overall horsepower needed to display the current LEADNAV interface. That and Apple is keeping it pretty locked down to which apps can utilize the system.

Any further news on this? Gaia just announced that they are now on CarPlay. I can forsee this being heavily used by people in the Offroad Fun Run category and those doing overlanding/geo caching etc.

It is on the list of to do's and we are researching the many limitations and restrictions that Apple sets on utilizing the CarPlay system.

When it does happen the CarPlay system will act as a "monitor/screen" for the LEADNAV brain which will still be running on an iPhone or iPad as the CarPlay system can't handle it alone.

Essentially the iPhone will be still running the system and just using the CarPlay screen as a dumbed down display as Apple restricts what we can "distract you with" as a driver of a vehicle...

But yes it is in the works.
