What iPad should I get?

Currently the iPad of choice is

iPad Air 2 64gb wifi+cell (actual cellular plan not needed)
Apple Care is a good idea on a new device

Why the 64gb versus the 16gb?
16gb is not a lot of storage. It will fill up quick when using the iPad for other things besides LEADNAV. However even just running LEADNAV you will sometimes save up to 10-20gb of background map imagery to your device.

Why the cellular model and not the wifi only iPad?
The wifi only iPad does not have a built in GPS chip for positioning. So without our XGPS160 bluetooth antenna, you will not be shown your position on the map. Even with the XGPS160 we highly suggest spending the extra $100 for a Cellular model because it gives you a backup as well as an option to travel without a puck. Cellular data or towers have nothing to do with GPS capability so you don't need to pay for monthly service.

iPad Air 1 with the same specifications will work as well. However you will experience slightly more lag and possible crashes do to its processing speed. Which is about half of the Air 2.

For a smaller option the iPad mini 4 has the same performance as the Air 2

iPad mini 2 with the same specifications will work as well. However you will experience slightly more lag and possible crashes do to its processing speed. Which is about half of the Air 2.
